HALL redevelopment
BACKGROUND
There is one indoor public space on Knoydart: the (dilapidated) Knoydart Community Hall. It is owned and operated by the Knoydart Community Hall and Events SCIO, which is managed by a volunteer committee of locals.
Built in 1959, the hall is central to community activity on the peninsula and used for a wide range of activities - from music, exhibitions, workshops and arts activities to community meetings, sports and social gatherings. Over the years the community has worked hard to keep the building ticking over but with limited resources it is now in real need of renovation and extension. As Knoydart develops the hall is put under increasing strain as a vital activity space and is no longer fit for purpose in our thriving community.
THE REFURB
Plans for the hall's renovation & extension have been ongoing for 20+ years, but in late 2017 the current committee were finally in a position to take forward the project and start fundraising. With the invaluable support from the local community and our Hall friends, we have raised over £120,000 through community events, a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign, a silent auction and support from private donors. The remainder of the budget has been sourced successfully from grant making trusts, LEADER and Highlands & Islands Enterprise.
